演讲者简介: Lydia H. Liu is the W.T. Tam Professor in the Humanities and Professor of Chinese and Comparative Literature at Columbia University. She is the Director of Graduate Studies at the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society at Columbia and holds a joint professorship at Tsinghua University. Professor Liu obtained her Ph.D. degree in Comparative Literature at Harvard University in 1990 and taught at UC Berkeley for more than a decade (1990-2002) where she eventually became the Catherine and William L, Magistretti Distinguished Professor of East Asian Languages and Cultures. She also taught at the University of Michigan in 2004-2006 and held the chair of the Helmut Stern Professorship in Chinese Studies and Professor of Comparative Literature. Her research and publications have focused on cultural exchange in modern history and literature, the movement of words, ideas, and artifacts across national boundaries, political thought in translation, and the evolution of writing, media, and technology. Among her many works, she is the author ofTranslingual Practice(Stanford 1995),The Clash of Empires(Harvard 2004), andthe editor of Tokens of Exchange(Duke 1999). Her most recent bookThe Freudian Robot: Digital Media and the Future of the Unconsciouswas published by the University of Chicago Press in 2010.
