演讲者简介:Paula Marantz Cohen is Distinguished Professor of English at Drexel University. She holds a B. A. in French and English from Yale College and a Ph.D. in English Literature from Columbia University. She is the author of four nonfiction books and four novels including, most recently, What Alice Knew: A Most Curious Tale of Henry James and Jack the Ripper which has been chosen as a Literary Guild and a Mystery Guild selection, noteworthy honors in the U.S.Paula Marantz Cohen is the host of a television talk show entitled “The Drexel InterView,” which is broadcast on 325 public television, educational, and community-affiliated stations across the United States. Her essays, stories, and reviews have appeared in The Yale Review, The American Scholar, The New York Times, The Times Literary Supplement, and other publications. She is a co-editor of the scholarly journal, jml: The Journal of Modern Literature . At Drexel University, her home institution, she teaches courses in American Literature, British Victorian Literature, Creative Writing, and Shakespeare. She is also interested in film, and has taught and written about the history of film. One of the reasons why she is here at Tsinghua is to make a documentary film about Tsinghua and Peking Universities and their importance in shaping China’s future. The film is tentatively entitled, “Two Universities and the Future of China.”
